Princes Risborough Cricket Club 1st XI v Tring Park 3 on Sat 23 Jun 2012 at 1pm
Match was Drawn

Match report The youth step up again in the biggest game so far this season.

A difficult decision after winning the toss led to Tring batting first on a damp, overcast afternoon at a pristine looking PRCC. Another good spell of new ball bowling from Lau and Wes lead to the customary early wicket and few runs for the oppo, but little luck otherwise, especially from Wes, who moved the ball both ways at will. This was continued by Immy and Andy Sheldon, who took a wicket each and kept things difficult for the batters. Then the spin pair of Steve and James Willard conceded only 12 runs from their first 9 overs combined, with both taking wickets. Good bowling was matched by very good, positive batting from several of Tring's players, and once again a good performance in the field (except the skipper!), and a very good performance by Pratik behind the stumps on what was a difficult day to keep wicket. Very tidy stuff, and a very calmly taken stumping off James Willard. Honours just about even at the end of the first innings.

Matt and Wes started positively and got the innings off to a very good start, with their second 50 partnership of the season in just over 10 overs, before Wes got a good ball. Indifferent top/middle order batting was compensated by a top innings by Matt Greaves, who got to his maiden 1st team league 50 in style with a one bounce 4 pulled through mid wicket (second junior player to score maiden 1st team league 50 in as many weeks). An unfortunate injury led to Matt retiring hurt, but another good partnership of 40 between two more youngsters (i'm sounding realllly old here) kept the innings going, with a very selective and solid innings by James Willard (22no) backed up by some positive stroke play from Farhan Khan, who finished with 30 in very little time. Matt rejoined the fray, and it would be fair to say that the target would have been very reachable had his momentum not been stopped through injury. In the end, Matt ended on 64, out trying to push the score along, and PRCC ended on a creditable 184/7.

Again, a very good display with many positives to take forward to next week. And again, a different man of the match for the 5th week in a row, showing that everyone is contributing. This week a lot of credit goes to the younger players, who continue to perform to a very high level, and are showing constant improvement.

Man of the match: Matt Greaves
