Princes Risborough Cricket Club 1st XI v Hayes 2 on Sat 04 Aug 2012 at 1pm
Princes Risborough Cricket Club Won by 1 run
Match report
Forget the olympics, this was the most dramatic sport of the weekend.
After winning the toss, Risborough batted against a Hayes team easily beaten earlier in the season. When we were 3-8 after 4 overs though, things weren't looking too good. But then Farhan Khan and Pratik set about getting the innings back on track, combining patience with a good number of boundaries. Pratik was eventually out for 38 following a partnership of nearly 70 with Farhan. The second mini-collapse of the innings left the Khan brothers together for an important 30 run partnership which took us over 100 and up towards the final total of 136. Farhan ended on 66 including 11 boundaries, his second 50 of the season, both very calm innings coming in tough situations. Credit to Imran as well for playing very sensibly for 15 overs with Farhan, getting us up to the total.
In reply, three boundaries came off the first over (well bowled skip), but this was followed quickly by a couple of wickets from Wes and one from Lau, meaning Hayes were quickly three down. A forth wicket fell quite quickly to Shelly, however a steady period then followed where good bowling and careful batting got Hayes over 100 for the loss of 4 wickets, despite many edges and a lot of playing and missing.
A crazy half hour then began with James Bee taking a very good stumping off Andy Hitchcock, followed by two well taken run outs by Lau/James and Pratik/James, as panic spread through the batting order. Steve put the opening bat out of his misery, following a long but very streaky stay at the crease. A flurry of boundaries put Hayes back into a winning position, but with 8 wickets down and 2 runs needed Hitch struck as the in form batsman pulled a length ball straight to Wes at midwicket. Three dot balls followed to add to the drama, and then Lau ended things with the first ball of the next over, with a straight, just about quick enough ball that took middle and leg. As Matt said at the start of the over 'no pressure Lau'. Cue wild celebrations.
Very good team effort and goes to show what consistent bowling and pressure can do.
Man of the Match: Farhan Khan.
