Match report
Another week, another top performance from one of the youngest members of the team, as part of a fantastic comeback that brought us back from the brink and nearly won the match...
Lost the toss and put in to the field by the oppo. A usual tidy and testing new ball spell from Wes and Lau led to two early wickets and not many runs on the board. Two Chalfont batters got their eye in, as the pitch flattened out and the ball started to get worn, sticking to their main scoring shots against decent bowling from risborough's attack, keeping the run rate to around 3 an over for much of the innings. The two spinners, Steve and Ali Bee did a creditable job in the middle overs and at the depth, picking up a few wickets each, and backed up by Andy Sheldon and Imran in the middle overs, who kept it tight and did not have much luck. A final total of 224 at around 4 an over seemed around par, and very getable considering the speed of the outfield and the standard of our batting for much of the season.
Wes and Matt started with a few boundaries a piece, putting on around 30 for the first wicket, before they were both out in quick succession. Dave B and Pratik continued to hit boundaries and keep the score ticking over, however both fell after getting a start, followed by James Bee and Lau, leaving us in a precarious position. Enter Farhan Kahn. An innings that showed a very solid defense, a cool head, and exceptional timing and ball striking turned the match on its head. Farhan was joined by Steve Greaves, who also started to hit boundaries, as the pair added runs at will, hitting clean boundaries and running well between the wickets. Farhan reached 50, yet another youngster making his first 1st XI league 50 this season. He kept going, eventually out in the last over of the match for 74, having taken Risborough to the brink of victory from what looked to be a potential loss an hour before. A well bowled last over put the target just out of reach, but an incredible effort from Farhan, backed up by Steve, kept our unbeaten run going, and again gives us positives to take forward to next week.
Man of the Match: Farhan Khan. Yet again, another different man of the match!
