Princes Risborough Cricket Club Sunday XI v Rivets on Sun 17 Apr 2011 at 1:00
Princes Risborough Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
A fine start for the Sunday side with a convincing nine wicket win against Rivets. Andy Sheldon won the toss and inserted Rivets on a near perfect batting wicket. First blood came to the skipper in the fourth over when he had the opener caught by Damien Pitt driving to mid off. Imran Khan removed the other opener in the tenth over with a ball that swung and cut back then hit middle stump. Tight bowling from Wes Strecker and Farhan Khan reduced Rivets to snail pace and their innings never got off the ground.Martin King gave the visitors some charitable bowling and Matt Greaves began his season with some fine offspin.Damien Pitt came on to finish the inns and took two wickets with a mixture of good balls and double bouncers. After a fine tea, you just got to love Vicky's scones, Risborough's openers were never really troubled by an attack that lacked any real pace or penetration. There was an appeal for a catch behind off Wes Strecker but the ball had come off the batsman's shoulder. Some unnecessary words were exchanged on and off the field. It may have become a part of the modern game but has no place in the game as far as the Sunday captain is concerned. Especially when the youngsters are playing. Wes and Matt carried on regardless and sadly Matt got himself out on forty eight standing right in front of his stumps. A good start to the season non the less. Wes ploughed on with some fine hitting and reached his hundred just before the end of the match. He saw the team home with Damien Pitt in the last twenty overs with plenty of time to spare. The opposition were very complimentary about the club especially the playing surface and conditions and were very keen to return next season. We look forward to entertaining Rivets again in the future.
